Local Notes: Congratulations, May Madness hampers, gala event and much more

Daniel Dransfield is going to attempt to complete the Two Oceans Marathon along with his friend, Dermot Walsh.
Now that St. Patrick’s day parade and our clean-up is complete the roadside hedges are all the better for it and it’s time to concentrate on some more fundraising elements going forward.
Just to note that our neighbours have had some fabulous events in the past month or so. KGK had a very successful Cheltenam preview night and Lismore had the fun and fabulous Lipsync. They very well run and enjoyable events so well done to the organisers on jobs well done. Also, well done to anyone who took part or took time out to join in the Cappoquin St Patrick’s Day Parade. This this was a most enjoyable event so again, well done to all involved.
Cappoquin, Affane, Tourin GAA are hosting a Golf Classic on the weekend of April 26 so if you are any good at swinging a golf club go get a team together and support this event, sure to be a fun outing.
Our fundraising raffle will be rolled out to you for the May Bank Holiday. Tickets will be available from committee members and we will be highly visible the weekend of May 2, 3 and 4, to ensure that you get a chance to buy a ticket and win one of our fabulous hampers. Tickets will be €2 a strip or three strips for €5 – a great bargain and all proceeds go towards the refurbishment fund for the hall.
Our AGM will be in May. Date to follow.
Remember that lovely day at Tourin House Gardens last year? Well plans are now afoot for a return to this beautiful location for another Gala Day. This year’s event will take place on Sunday, June 15. So, make sure you are prepared for another spectacular day out in Tourin. We aim to follow a similar format of last year with a quality craft element to the day, so if you have a little local business which could be mobilised to a stall for a day, give us a call. Please note that we will not be accepting food stalls to this event.
Save the date, this year's Tourin Field Day will be held on Sunday, August 24. Keep the date free for what promises to be a fantastic community event.
The Two Oceans Marathon is a 56 kilometres ultramarathon and is run alongside a 21 kilometres half-marathon, held annually in Cape Town, South Africa, on the Saturday (Ultra) and Sunday (half) of the weekend after Easter. Local man, Daniel Dransfield, is taking on the Two Oceans Ultra Marathon to raise funds for the Centre of Colorectal Disease (CCD) at St Vincent’s Hospital in Dublin. His aim is to raise awareness about colitis, Crohn’s Disease and colorectal conditions and raise some money to support vital research which will ultimately improve lives. Dan battled this disease for almost two years and has decided to do something to give back and show support to the incredible team in St. Vincent's Hospital. He is undertaking the challenge alongside his good friend Dermot Walsh. He has set up a GoFundMe link to allow people to contribute to this fundraising event. To support his endeavour go online to https://gofund.me/4159a60c if you wish to contribute to this cause which helped Dan and others back to good health. All on the hall committee would like to wish Dan the very best as he takes on this challenge in a couple of weeks’ time.
Congratulations to local lad, Gavin Fives and the Waterford senior hurling management team, on their win over Offaly in the Alliance League Division 1B final. Back up next year where ye belong. We look forward to an exciting championship this year.
