For many years, Portlaw Community Centre has provided an important community service by hosting after-funeral receptions in the Hall. This has been made possible through the dedication of the committee and a small group of volunteers. Unfortunately, due to increased work and family commitments, it has become increasingly difficult to sustain the service. We have now reached a point where additional volunteers are essential if this valued support is to continue. We are seeking volunteers to assist with any or all of the following tasks: Preparing the hall in advance of the reception; Serving on the day of the event; Tidying up, washing up and resetting the hall afterwards. Please note that time can sometimes be limited, as the hall may have another booking scheduled later in the same day. If new volunteers are not forthcoming the committee may only be able to prepare the hall, and families using the facilities would need to provide their own helpers for the event itself. The Hall is regularly booked for a wide range of community activities. When a funeral reception is requested, the regularly scheduled group may or may not be able to cancel their booking to accommodate it. On rare occasions where two funerals occur close together, this may not always be possible. We greatly appreciate the ongoing understanding and goodwill of all hall users as we try our best to facilitate families during these times. If you are willing to volunteer for any aspect of this service, please contact: Ann Power (087 1258625) and Therese Keyes (051 387616).
We are counting down the weeks to our trip to New York. Please continue to drop your cans and bottles to the field for us to return. We are blown away by the support so far. From all at the club, we would like to wish Jordan O'Sullivan and Millie the very best as they head off to Australia today for the start of a new adventure. Jordy has been a massive player for our club in both hurling and football for as long as we can remember and we will miss him greatly both on and off the field, for the year ahead. Have a ball and a safe journey.
