On Christmas Day, at Counsellors Strand, the Annual Dunmore East Christmas Day Swim in memory of Ger McEnery took place. Ger was involved for many years in the swim. This year it was in aid of Esophageal Cancer and Gaultier Camogie Club and as always a huge crowd of swimmers participated, men ,women and children. A sister of Ger McEnery thanked the organisers for remembering him this year. At 12noon sharp the countdown began from 10 to the off and the swimmers were sent off by the Dunmore East Fire Service Hooter which sounded loud and clear for some time, with the crowds watching responding to the MC. Adding very much to the occasion was Pat Murphy on bagpipes, playing well known Christmas songs while Chris Walsh, from Dunmore East was also there playing his drums. A sincere thank you to all the swimmers who participated but collection buckets were very scarce for the huge crowd and all the swimmers taking part. Thanks to the Fire Service team on duty, ambulance crew and the Gardai and of course organiser in chief Sharon Kelly, assisted by Ritchie Roberts and Fintan Walsh. Please note many sponsorship cards were out for the occasion and these should be returned immediately to Sharon Kelly, Haven Hotel.
A huge crowd was in Power's Bar on Monday, December 30, for the annual Christmas Table Quiz for the Dunmore East RNLI. The RNLI expressed sincere thanks to all who went along all who donated raffle prizes. They also thanked the quizmasters, Tom and David Ryan, the hardworking team in Power's Bar and the fundraising volunteers who made sure the night ran smoothly and to all involved on the night.
The Gaultier Vintage Tractor Run took place on Sunday, December 29, from Carbally Community Centre. The run started and finished at the centre - where food was available upon their return. Later that evening in Dower's Bar, Ballymacaw a great night of music took place and a raffle was held. Overall it was a very successful day. On New Year's Eve a great evening took place in the centre with music and karaoke and a monster draw in the presence of a huge crowd.
