Waterford gears up for Writers' Weekend

Claire Keegan will be 'In Conversation' at Waterford's Central Library

The Waterford Writers Weekend (WWW) will take place from October 24 to 27, and will feature events in Waterford City and Dungarvan.

This festival is for readers, writers and people who love all things literary and there will be a range of events and workshops to suit all ages.

Since the programme was launched earlier this month, the schools outreach events in libraries are fully booked, as is the Claire Keegan, ‘In Conversation’ event to be held in Central Library.

The writing workshop with Danielle McLaughlin is also fully subscribed and the organisers told Waterford News & Star that booking is brisk for other workshops and events with the advice being not to leave it to the last minute to book as most now have limited places.

Commenting on the event, Margaret Organ, Arts Officer and Curator of this years festival, said: "The Arts and Library Service of the Council is delighted to offer this festival with events at low or no cost to attendees. We had great support in bringing the programme to Dungarvan last year, so this year we have extended that offering."

"We are using our Council venues to their best advantage in the city and county," said Margaret.

"Of interest to audiences attending in the city will be the ever popular SpeakEasy Open Mic, in Phil Grimes, on the Friday evening," she added.

Margaret also commented that Molly Twomey has a special Samhain Workshop devised for the Saturday afternoon in the Waterford Gallery of Art with limited places now available. The winners of the national Waterford Poetry Prize, adjudicated by Colm Keegan, will be announced online and at the Waxed Lemon launch closing event in the Waterford Gallery of Art on Sunday, October 27.

Those who can't attend in person are advised to keep an eye to the Council’s and WWW’s social media for a You Tube premiere link for the Poetry Prize.

There are many more events on offer. You can view the full programme and booking details on waterfordarts.com Waterford City and County Couuncil is pleased to support and promote the Arts.
