Get ready for a journey like no other as Waterford Treasures has unveiled its brand new Children’s Viking Tour.

The tour will offer an exciting experience that will transforms young visitors into fearless Viking adventurers, right in the heart of Ireland’s oldest city.

What will make the adventure more intriguing and exciting is the fact the children will be literally standing where Viking warriors once roamed, holding their very own sword while doing so.

From July 5, families will be able to step back in time over a thousand years and walk the very streets where Norse legends were made.

A spokesperson for Waterford Treasures said: "The Children’s Viking Tour offers an immersive and magical way for kids to learn history, not from a book, but by living it."

The adventure will begin at the Viking House, a full-size replica of a real Viking home.

"Here, children are welcomed into the community by a friendly Viking guide and handed their very own toy sword to keep as a memory of the day," said the spokesperson.

"From there, the group sets off on a light walking tour through Waterford’s ancient narrow streets [and] along the way, kids will hear tales of epic battles, daring sea voyages and mighty Viking kings who once ruled this land," she added.

Eyes will be sure to widen at the sight of a 40-foot replica Viking longboat and ears will perk up at the sound of ancient stories shared in the shadows of Reginald’s Tower, built for the Viking, Rognvald, King of Waterford, and after whom it is named.

Imaginations are also likely to run wild as the children get to explore the day-to-day of Viking life when they return to the Viking House at the tour’s end.

The tour runs every Saturday and Sunday at 1pm, starting July 5 and will last just over 30 minutes.

"Just enough time to spark curiosity and inspire young minds without tiring out tiny legs," said the spokesperson.

"Perfect for families looking to enjoy the outdoors while discovering something truly different, this is not just a tour, it’s a mini time-travel adventure," she added.

Whether you’re a local family seeking a fresh summer activity or visitors hoping to uncover Ireland’s ancient past, the Children’s Viking Tour at Waterford Treasures will offer a unique experience that will be as educational as it is fun.

Tickets for the tour are priced €9.50 per child aged 5 to 12, which includes a toy sword to take home.

Adult tickets are also priced €9.50 while children aged under 5 will get to enjoy the tour free of charge.

Family tickets, priced €35 for two adults and two children, are also available with additional children tickets priced just €6.50.

Pre-booking is recommended, as each tour is limited to 25 participants.
