Talented novelist to appear at SpeakEasy event in Waterford City

Orla Mackey
The SpeakEasy literary event returns to Phil Grimes Pub on Friday, September 26, with a reading featuring the talented debut novelist Orla Mackey.
The event starts at 8pm and will also feature music from well-known traditional musician, Orla McCarthy Kent.
Kilkenny native Orla Mackey is a writer and teacher. Last year, her debut novel 'Mouthing' was published by Hamish Hamilton to critical acclaim, and her writing has been compared to that of Donal Ryan.
She was a winner at the Irish Writers' Centre's, Novel Fair, which scouts for new literary talent.
Accomplished trad musician Áine McCarthy Kent will add a great musical flavour to the night.
Áine is the founder of Tradchestra and of Tramore Comhaltas. She has toured with the band Rua and is a member of the Limerick-based New Collections Harp Collective.
The popular open mic section of SpeakEasy will also return, and local authors at all levels are invited to come and share a poem or short piece of prose.
The entry fee to the upcoming Speakeasy event at Phil Grimes Pub is €5.
Guests can pay at the door on the night, cash only.
