A shining light of the local arts scene, Stagemad Theatre Company is celebrating two decades of theatrical productions in Waterford.
Throughout the years, Stagemad has carved out a massive body of work, mounting an impressive résumé of 40 new plays.
The company's 20th birthday will be marked next month with a celebratory new production of ‘A Streetcar Named Desire’, inviting the public to the French Quarter for the local production of Tennessee Williams’ masterpiece.
The production features a stellar cast, including Barry Roe as the brutish and magnetic 'Stanley Kowalski', and Clodagh Kenny as the torn 'Stella Kowalski', bringing depth, intensity and desire to Tennessee Williams' iconic characters.
The play is a timeless story of illusion clashing with reality, desire battling against decorum, and the brutal downfall of a fading Southern belle.
Set against the steamy backdrop of New Orleans, the play remains as potent and relevant today as when it first stunned audiences in 1947.
