Local artist Lillian O'Sullivan launched her latest exhibition last week, capturing the waters of Waterford’s coastline.
‘Reflections on Water’, exhibited at the Tramore Coastguard Cultural Centre, features 20 oil on canvas pieces capturing views from Councillor's Strand, Brownstown, the Guillamene, The Metalman and more iconic coastal areas of the county.
“The sea is the inspiration,” Lillian said, “I grew up beside the sea and I decided to focus on the light’s reflections on the water, because I’m constantly taking photos of the sunlight and the moonlight, so I decided to do a full collection.
“I live in Tramore and the collection features all areas where I swim a lot,” she added.
“I love Tramore, and as a teenager you don’t appreciate it, but as you get older and have kids yourself, you realize what beauty we have here. As you get older you start taking notice, it’s such a beautiful place.
“It’s great for your mental health, even to just go for a walk on the beach, and there’s inspiration everywhere.”
Last week’s launch saw a strong turnout of locals, with the first piece selling almost immediately. Lillian said: “It’s very nerve-wracking. It’s hard to do, but it's lovely to see people come in who enjoy your work.
“You just don’t know how people are going to receive it and it's very difficult to put yourself out there, but everyone seems to love it so far so I’m delighted.
Officially launching the exhibition, Imagine Arts Festival Director, Sinéad Dunphy complimented Lillian for her work: “It is a stunning collection. I have great memories of Waterford and I just love the water. Your work really speaks to me. So I’m thrilled and thank you."
The exhibition is on display now at Tramore Coastguard Cultural Centre.
