Cast unveiled for upcoming Waterford production of Tennessee Williams classic

Actors Clodagh Kenny and Lauren Cardiff.
Stagemad have announced that two of Waterford's finest actors will star in their upcoming production of Tennessee Williams’ Pulitzer prize-winning classic, A Streetcar Named Desire, directed by James Power.
Stagemad's revival of the classic play delves deep into the complex dynamic between sisters Blanche DuBois played by Lauren Cardiff and Stella Kowalski played by Clodagh Kenny, two women clinging to survival on different terms in the humid, volatile atmosphere of the New Orleans’ French Quarter.
Blanche DuBois, the fading Southern belle haunted by a tragic past, arrives at her sister’s doorstep seeking refuge.
She represents a world of illusion, old-world charm, and fragile beauty colliding with the harsh, modern realities of post-war America.
Stella embodies a different kind of survival. Having escaped the decaying gentility of their childhood home, she has forged a new life defined by raw passion and primal love for her husband, Stanley.
Caught between her loyalty to her volatile sister and her powerful, visceral connection to her marriage, Stella becomes the emotional anchor and tragedy of the play.
"This renowned play is the story about these two women,” says director James Power.
"It’s a portrait of sisterly love stretched to its absolute breaking point. We are exploring not just Blanche’s famous tragedy, but Stella’s impossible choice: the choice between a sister who lives in dreams and a husband who represents a brutal, but very real, life.
"The production aims to highlight the strength, vulnerability, and deep bond they share, even as forces beyond their control tear them apart."
The play will run from November 11 to 15 at 8pm nightly at Garter Lane Arts Centre.
