Women's Shed host international exhibition in Waterford for women convicted of petty crimes

Handmade bonnets as part of the international exhibition, Roses from the Heart.
An exhibition by Ferrybank Women's Shed will be on display tomorrow, Thursday, August 15.
The Bonnet Project Exhibition is part of a large international project called Roses from the Heart.
The exhibition, which was initiated by Tasmanian artist Dr. Christina Henri, is a unique memorial to more than 25,500 women who were convicted of petty crimes and transported to Australia from Ireland and Britain between 1788 and 1853. Some 350 were convicted Waterford women and many were forced to travel because of their social class and poverty.
There will be beautiful handmade bonnets, which is a textile symbol and metaphor for the women, on display at Ferrybank Library from 10.30am until 4.30pm. The exhibition is free to attend.
