County Waterford estate hit with water termination notice

Residents of Woodlands Estate, Portlaw, received official notice that the current water provider for the estate will withdraw service by Friday, August 14, in onlya fewe days.

Sinn Féin TD for Waterford, Deputy Conor McGuiness and local Councillor Catherine Burke have called on the developer to ensure continued provision of water services and the ongoing monitoring of water quality.

They have also called on Uisce Éireann to expedite the planned connection of Woodlands Estate to the public water network to end the uncertainty facing residents once and for all.

"This is an extremely serious development," Deputy McGuinness said.

"Households are now facing uncertainty about the continuity of their water supply and the continued monitoring of water quality. That is completely unacceptable," he added.

He went on to comment: “The residents have waited long enough. They deserve certainty, security and a permanent solution. I will continue working with Cllr Catherine Burke, Deputy David Cullinane and the residents’ committee until that is delivered."

Local Sinn Féin councillor Catherine Burke also spoke out on the residents behalf, saying: “Residents are understandably extremely anxious. There can be no interruption to their water supply and no gap in the monitoring of water quality. I have sought urgent clarification from Uisce Éireann, Waterford City and County Council, and the relevant parties on what immediate action will now be taken.”
