Woman sentenced for brawl in Centra on the Quay

The incident took place in Centra on Waterford's quayfront

A woman has received a prison sentence for a fight that occurred inside Centra on Waterford’s Quays.

On April 15, Christina Ryan of Ballymartin, Mullinavat, Kilkenny, was stood in the deli queue in the store.

As she walked towards the till, she met a woman who she has a  “history” with.

A fight ensued between the pair.

Forceful punches were thrown and they were shouting obscenities towards each other.

Ryan was captured on CCTV grabbing the other party by the hair and punching her.

Members of the public were present at the time and had to move out of the way.

Two customers separated the two women.

Ryan was charged with affray.

During her court appearance last week, the judge also dealt with a drug offence that Ryan committed on July 8, 2024.

On that date, she was a passenger in a vehicle that was stopped by a Garda mobile patrol unit. She was found to be in possession of €20 of diamorphine (heroin).

The woman has 44 previous convictions, 29 of which fall under the Section 3 of the Misuse of Drugs Act.

Judge John Cheatle sentenced the woman to six months imprisonment for the offence committed at Centra. Her sentence will run concurrently to sentences she is presently serving.

The additional drug matter was taken into consideration.
