Local institution, Genoa Takeaway, in Dungarvan is set to close in the New Year as the Di Vetta family, who ran the business for 35 years, look to retire.
Local real estate agents REA Spratt, announced the news that the Grattan Square premises of Genoa Takeaway in Dungarvan is up for sale as a going concern, stating: "After many successful years trading Genoa’s Take Away has earned its status as a local institution, however, the current owners, the Di Vetta family, are now retiring from the business marking the end of an era."
"Sad to say our time has come," the Di Vetta family themselves said. "We have enjoyed the 35 years here in this wonderful town, a place we call home. For now, we are still operating as usual and will keep you all posted [with] any updates."
"Thank you for all the kind words (I'm sure there have been a few saucy ones said too from time to time, especially on a Saturday night, hey but it's all banter). Hope to see you all over the Christmas period."
Following an outpouring of nostalgia and support from the local community, the Di Vetta family issued another statement clarifying that the business will remain open over Christmas and into the New Year, with the addition of a 'For Sale' sign: "No rush to get in!"
Newly-elected TD, Deputy Conor McGuinness said that the takeaway "has been an institution in Dungarvan for many, many years. A family-run enterprise that epitomises all that is good about our SME sector and family-run businesses in the heart of the community, and providing a terrific service that was much-loved by the people of Dungarvan and further afield."
"I just want to wish the Di Vetta Family very well in the years ahead, they've been a huge part of the community and they deserve every happiness in their retirement," said Deputy McGuinness.
