A soccer club in Waterford City has submitted a planning permission application to Waterford City and County Council for a major expansion to their facilities.
Southend United Football Club in Ballybeg are seeking to build an extension to their existing clubhouse building.
The single-storey extension will comprise of a community room, additional toilet facilities and a separate changing room for referees.
It's not just the players that will benefit from the expansion, the upgraded changing room will also accommodate a coffee kiosk to help keep warm on those cold Saturday mornings, as well as a covered viewing area thanks to the extension of the entrance canopy.
The expansion to the clubhouse, if approved, would be designed to blend in with the existing clubhouse design, using the same metal sheet roofing and colouration of the upright structures. The extension will not break the existing elevation of the clubhouse.
Southend United FC was one of 70 sports clubs in the Déise to get a major funding boost after having been awarded a slice of nearly €8.8 million under the Sports Capital programme. Southend United received €15,268 in funding under the scheme, which aimed to support local groups to invest in sports facilities to benefit their communities.
The full planning application is available to be viewed on the Waterford City and County Council planning website.
