Waterford man convicted of domestic violence
Waterford District Court
A Waterford city man has been handed down a suspended sentence at Waterford District Court in relation to an incident of domestic violence.
The 36-year-old man entered a guilty plea to the charge, which occurred in the city in October 2024. He was also charged with various other counts, including criminal damage, theft, and public order offences. The court heard that the victim in the case, the man’s estranged partner, did not wish to make a victim impact statement. His solicitor said that the man had made “stringent efforts to straighten himself out”.
Judge Kevin Staunton convicted and sentenced him, in relation to the domestic violence crime, committed under Section 33 (1) of the Domestic Violence Act, 2018, to six months, which he suspended for 12 months, on the condition that he abide by all recommendations of the Probation Services regarding anger management. Everything else was taken into consideration.
