The Waterford Lions Club has given €1,000 each to five local charites at a special event.
The Lions Club function was held in The Tower Hotel on Monday, November 2.
In making the presentations, President Cathal Lowe said the Lions Club was delighted to acknowledge the significant contributions the respective groups make to the local community.
The five groups were Renew Enterprises, Waterford Animal Welfare, St Paul’s Scout Group, Assisi House and Waterford Women’s Centre and Childcare Service.
Mr Lowe went on to say that whilst the Lions Club may be synonymous with the Christmas Hamper Appeal supporting local voluntary groups was also important to the club, and he hopes that the €1,000 will go some way to assist each one in running their day-to-day activities or long term projects.
The Lions Club has been supporting the people of Waterford for the last 61 years and this week launched their 48th consecutive Christmas Hamper Appeal.
