Waterford Lion's Club had a fabulous evening on Saturday, December 14, as they sang beautiful Yuletide carols at the Cathedral of the Most Holy Trinity.

The Club held their annual Christmas Carol concert which attracted hundreds of people to the city centre.

Anticipation for the event was at fever pitch, with many audience members taking their seats nearly two hours before the start of the concert.

Mayor of Waterford, Cllr Jason Murphy, Bishop of Lismore and Waterford Alphonsus Cullinan, and Reverend John Harris were in attendance at the cathedral.

The event was included as part of the Winterval Festival.

According to PRO Patsy Sheridan: "People were coming in to the church and taking their seats at 2.30pm. It was packed to the gills!"

Patsy told the Waterford News and Star: "It was a lovely atmosphere. To hear 200 voices singing, my God , the hairs on the back of your neck would stand up."

Christmas Hamper Appeal

The event attracted people of all ages, even beyond Waterford.

This event marked the 46th year of the club's Christmas Hamper appeal, which aims to support over 1,300 families in Waterford.

The hampers include turkey and ham, along with a few other items to help struggling families through the holidays.

The Club managed to raise over €10,000 in the cathedral alone. Earlier on in the month, the club took on a week of street collections to raise money.

They also held an auction was at the Tower Hotel with items donated by local businesses.

Between the auction, concert and street donations, the Lions Club have shown, once again, the generosity of the Déise people.
