Around 30 children and teenagers from the Kids of Tramore Pottery showcased their garden, ‘Seanchas and Sandhills’, at Bloom this year.
Their garden was inspired by the idea of passing language and knowledge down to the next generation, as well as by the sandhills, an area of conservation in Tramore.
Patricia Conesa, co-owner of Tramore Pottery, told the that for the students to be able to showcase their pottery that they had spent all year working on was really special. Every year Patricia and Claire organise a showcase for their kids and teens' classes, last year it was held in the Japanese gardens in Tramore.
“We want to show the kids that what they’re doing is important. It’s not just a little hobby, art is important.”
Patricia said that there are 33 kids attending the weekly pottery class and nearly all of them came up to Bloom. She explained that demand is high for these classes, with a further 15 people on the waiting list for next term.
A spokesperson for Tirlán CountryLife said, "The Kids of Tramore Pottery’s Postcard Garden attracted great interest from visitors of all ages, showcasing the power of community gardening to connect people, inspire creativity, and celebrate local stories, sustainability, and shared pride of place.
"Among the most popular attractions at Bloom, the pop-up Postcard Gardens were built in just one day and provided amateur gardeners, schools, community groups and local organisations with a small plot to showcase their stories creatively, causes and local pride through imaginative planting and garden design.
"Community is at the heart of everything Tirlán CountryLife does and, through its long-running partnership with Bord Bia Bloom and network of 15 garden centres nationwide, it continues to help spread the inspiration, creativity and magic of the Postcard Gardens to an even wider audience."
This year, 14 groups were selected to show their Postcard Gardens at Bord Bia Bloom in the Phoenix Park this June Bank Holiday weekend.
