During a case involving intoxicated driving in Waterford District Court last week, Judge Kevin Staunton issued a warning to young people.

The case being heard concerned an incident, which took place on December 12, 2024, in Waterford city.

On the day in question, Gardaí searched a black Volkswagen Passat on Parnell Street.

They found various forms of cannabis.

The defendant, Ryan O’Neill (25), of Apartment 14, Block C, Mount Suir Manor, pleaded guilty to Section 4 (1A) of the Road Rraffic Act. He has no previous convictions.

He was convicted and disqualified from driving for a period of 12 months, taking effect in April. There was no fine.

In convicting the man, Judge Staunton “warned young people” to never drive whilst under the influence of drugs.

“It stays in your system longer than alcohol,” he said.
