Water conservation urged as night-time restrictions are put in place in parts of Dungarvan this week

Night-time restrictions and temporary interruptions to water supply are required this week in parts of the Dungarvan area to support treated water reservoir recovery and help safeguard daytime supply for homes, businesses, and essential services.

“Customers in Abbeyside, Ballinroad, Clonea, Caseyville and surrounding areas may experience low pressure or interruptions to their water supply between 11pm and 7am over the coming week”, says Uisce Éireann.

In addition, some customers may experience localised outages while crews carry out essential leak repair works on the network.

Maura Phelan, Operations Manager with Uisce Éireann, said: "We are asking customers to continue making every effort to conserve water throughout the week. By reducing non-essential water use, everyone can help protect local supplies and support reservoir recovery.

We would also encourage customers to sign up to our free text alert service so they can receive timely updates on any supply interruptions or essential repair works in their area. We thank customers for their continued cooperation and understanding."

Simple steps taken at home, in the garden, on farms and in workplaces can make a real difference in protecting local water supplies during this period.

Uisce Éireann have supplied a list of tips to conserve water over the coming days:

• Drop the hose: Use a rose-head watering can instead of a hose or sprinkler. Water plants early or late in the day to reduce evaporation.

• Take shorter showers instead of a bath: Reducing your shower time can save up to 10 litres of water per minute. A typical bath uses around 80 litres.

• Turn off the tap: Avoid running water while brushing your teeth or shaving.

• Fill up your appliances: Only run your washing machine and dishwasher when they have a full load.

• Fix dripping taps: A single dripping tap can waste between 5,000 and 10,000 litres of water a year.

• Use a basin in the sink: Use a basin when rinsing vegetables or washing dishes and reuse that water for your plants.

• Clean the car with a sponge: When washing your car, avoid the hose and use a bucket and sponge instead.

• Install a water butt: Use it to collect rainwater from your gutters for gardening or washing the yard.

• Pick plants wisely: Opt for low-water plants wherever possible.

• Lock in moisture: Add bark or plant material to flower beds to help prevent evaporation.

Customers are also encouraged to check for leaks around their homes, farms and businesses and to report any leaks on the public water network by contacting Uisce Éireann's 24/7 Customer Care Team on 1800 278 278 or online through www.water.ie
