Man jailed for heroin and crack cocaine possession in Waterford
Gibson has an extensive history of offending.
A man has received a prison sentence for having crack cocaine and heroin in his possession for the purpose of sale or supply.
The man was also sentenced on one count of money laundering.
The guilty party is 31-year-old Patrick Gibson, of 4 Ashley Court, Clonmel.
He appeared before Judge Eugene O'Kelly in Waterford Courthouse last week.
On October 18, 2022, at approximately 3:30pm, gardaí observed Gibson acting suspiciously.
Gardai approached the man and found him to be in possession of €580 of heroin and €32 of crack cocaine.
He also had cash to the value of €325 in his possession.
The man was arrested and was brought to Waterford Garda Station, where he made full admissions of ownership to gardaí.
Gibson has an extensive history of offending, and first came to the attention of gardaí when he was 11 years old. He has 44 previous convictions.
He has suffered from “really severe” addiction problems throughout his life and has amassed considerable drug debts.
Judge Eugene O’Kelly, presiding over Waterford Circuit Court, said that “this court has to deal with the repercussions of heroin and crack cocaine all the time.”
The man’s defence counsel outlined to the judge that Gibson was “entirely cooperative” with gardaí during the search and entered into a guilty plea during the early stages of the investigation.
Judge O’Kelly took his “extremely dysfunctional background” into consideration when sentencing him.
For possession of heroin and crack cocaine for the purposes of sale or supply, Patrick Gibson received a sentence of two years and three months, with the final two years suspended.
For money laundering, Gibson received a six-month sentence, suspended in full.
