Call for sulky ban in Waterford council housing
Cllr Murphy said he knows of many cases where multiple sulkies are being stored in one council house.
Cllr Jason Murphy called on the council to take action against sulkies residing in council houses at the most recent Plenary meeting of Waterford City and County Council.
At the meeting Cllr Murphy told council executives and elected members he knows of many cases where multiple sulkies are being stored in one council house, where residents aren’t allowed more than one dog.
When asking about policies surrounding sulkies in council houses, Cllr Murphy said: “Do we have a policy around the storing of sulkies in our housing? And if we don’t, I think we should.”
He went on to say: “I think it’s totally unacceptable and deplorable behaviour and it needs to be banned immediately.”
In response, Séamus de Faoite, Director of Housing for Waterford City and County Council, said that although he was unaware of any policy around the storage of sulkies in council housing, he had “no problem looking at it, but there’s no point having something on paper unless we are willing and we can follow through.”
