Tributes were paid last week to Mary Flynn (nee McGivney), who passed away on April 22.
Mary, a local to Feddens, Rathgormack, was well known in Waterford for her years of dedication to the Comeraghs Wild festival, which since its inception has grown and expanded into one of Waterford’s most successful events.
Mary exhibited tireless dedication to the festival since its inception in 2013. She was present at almost every single committee meeting and event that took place in the years since.
Through this work, Mary held shape and mould a beloved celebration of rural life, music, storytelling and culture.
Mary was also a stalwart of the local agricultural community. She served as Secretary of Waterford IFA and as Chair of the IFA Waterford Farm Family & Social Affairs Committee.
Heartfelt tributes were paid to Mary during last week’s Comeragh municipal district meeting.
Cllr Seanie Power said “Mary served as Chairperson of the Comeraghs Wild festival from the very start, and she only ever missed one meeting in her twelve years. Even the last meeting held for the Comeraghs Wild festival was held in Mary’s house just a week before she passed away.
“The whole committee are so grateful to Mary and all the commitment she gave to the Comeraghs Wild festival.”
Cllr Liam Brazil praised Mary’s work ethic and dedication to the festival over the years.
"As a member of the Comeraghs Wild committee, I know very well the work that Mary put into the festival over the years."
Mary’s funeral mass took place at Saint Cuan and Brogán Church, Clonea Power on Saturday April 25.
