Tramore Taekwon-Do are celebrated in City Hall for World Championships success

Tramore Taekwan-Do, who represented Ireland with distinction on the world stage at the ITF Union World Championships held in Argentina, were honoured with a Mayoral Reception in City Hall last week.

In October last year, five athletes from Tramore travelled to Buenos Aires to compete in the competition.
Club members Stephen McGrath, Paula O’Gorman, Keith Furnell, Robyn McGrath and Lia McGrath all took home medals for Ireland.
Across Patterns, Sparring and Power Breaking, the team returned home with an ten medals between them.
Stephen McGrath claimed gold in patterns, along with bronze medals in Sparring and Power Breaking.
Paula O’Gorman brought home gold in Patterns, silver in Sparring and bronze in Power Breaking.
Keith Furnell secured silver in Patterns and bronze in Sparring.
Robyn McGrath earned bronze in Sparring, whilst Lia McGrath capped an incredible championship with Gold in sparring.
Overall, Team Ireland finished sixth in the medal table, with Tramore Taekwon-Do placing 25th out of 108 clubs worldwide.

Speaking at the reception held in City Hall last week, Mayor of Waterford City and County, Cllr Seamus Ryan, commended the tireless work of the entire club.
He acknowledged Master Ambrose Murphy, 8th Degree, “whose leadership and coaching continued to set standards not just in competition, but in character, discipline and respect.”
“For over 35 years, Tramore Taekwon-Do has been part of the fabric of their community” Mayor Ryan added.
“The club supports children, young people and adults, building confidence, resilience and self-belief alongside sporting excellence. That legacy is clearly alive and thriving today.
“I want to congratulate the whole team on their achievements, thank everyone in the club, and wish you every success in the competitions ahead. You have done Tramore, Waterford and Ireland immensely proud.”
The club has returned to training and are now looking ahead to the ITF Munster Open Championships taking place later this month.
They are also targeting victories at the European Open Championships which take place in Italy later this year.
