'They should be very proud of their chosen career,' Waterford to welcome new gardaí

The new recruits will be assigned to Waterford City and Tramore, following Templemore graduation.

Four new gardaí have been assigned to Waterford.

The announcement was made by Waterford TD, Minister for State and Government Chief Whip, Mary Butler.

Minister Butler said three will be assigned to Waterford City, while the fourth will go to Tramore.

“A safe and secure atmosphere in Waterford’s villages, towns and City is a huge priority of mine. By strengthening the numbers of An Garda Síochána in Waterford in recent months, we are striving for safer communities and increased visibility across the county,” said Minister Butler.

These new Gardaí are members of the 167 new Gardaí attested at a ceremony in the Garda College in Templemore today.

Between August and November 13, new gardaí were assigned to Waterford City and Dungarvan.

Today’s announcement brings the total to 17 since last summer.

“As a Minister representing Waterford, I want to welcome the 17 new recruits from Templemore assigned to the Deise in recent months and wish them well as they start out in their Garda journey.

“They should be very proud of their chosen career path. I’m sure these new Gardaí will be keen to engage with locals and become an active and visible presence within their communities.

“I also want to thank my colleague, Minister for Justice, Jim O’Callaghan T.D, who has always been open to engagement on local policing matters.

“I accompanied the Minister on his official visit to Waterford in September, during which we visited Garda Stations in West Waterford and Waterford City to discuss policing and security matters,” said Minister Butler.
