A recent roads policing initiative saw the gardai in Waterford and Kilkenny team up as part of a roads policing initiative.
Operation Iompair saw members from the Kilkenny and Waterford Roads Policing Units collaborate to roll out the operation in the south east.
In an online post the gardaí noted: 'This Operation utilises a HGV tractor Unit (spotter) working in close cooperation with marked and unmarked (catcher) units.'
"The aim is to detect distracted driving and other offences," noted the gardaí.
In all 51 offences were detected including 46 related to mobile phone infringements and five Seatbelt detections.
The gardaí also highlighted that a dog was returned to its owner.
"We make no apologies for using undercover units to detect distracted driving and other offences, be it on the open road using a HGV or similar town-based operations, using beat and pushbike," noted the gardaí.
"The people risking theirs, and everybody else's lives, will not do this in front of a marked patrol car but do need to be caught," they added.
