National sporting community pays tribute to Ella O’Neill

Tributes have been pouring in following the death of Ella O’Neill of Ballyheeny, Clashmore, Waterford/ Carlow/ Sligo.
Sporting clubs from across the country have offered condolences, with a Waterford Ladies Football spokesperson saying, “Waterford LGFA would like to extend our sincere condolences to Ella’s family JJ, Josephine, Darragh, and Aoife, her extended family, friends, and teammates.
“Ella represented both her club and county on the field of play with great distinction. A popular captain of underage Waterford teams, she had recently started to contribute to her club Clashmore Kinsalebeg as a coach to their underage teams. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a hanam. May she rest in peace.” Waterford Camogie also paid tribute, saying, “It is with profound sadness that we learned earlier today the news of the untimely death of Ella O Neill.
“We would like to extend our heartfelt sympathy to Ella’s family, her parents JJ and Josephine, to her brother and sister Darragh and Aoife, and to Ella’s extended family, friends and Modeligo GAA and Camogie Club, Co. Waterford teammates and all the club.
“Ella was a member of the Modeligo Camogie Club and was part of the Modeligo adult team who secured their first ever adult title in 2019. Ella’s commitment to Modeligo and Camogie was second to none. Travelling from Clashmore to Modeligo to play her beloved sport, Ella will always be remembered fondly by all of us in camogie.” A condolence from RIP.ie from Sligo LGFA said, “All of Sligo LGFA offer our sincere condolences to the O’Neill family at this very sad time. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all. We are also thinking of Ella’s club and college mates at this very sad time.” Another from Dublin LGFA said, “All involved in Dublin LGFA offer our sincere condolences to the O’Neill family at this very sad time. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all. We are also thinking of Ella’s club mates and those she played alongside with Waterford LGFA.” Ella is predeceased by her grandfather Redmond and John, and her aunt Jenny, and will be dearly missed by her loving family, her parents JJ and Josephine, brother Darragh, sister Aoife, grandparents Kitty (O’Neill) and Marie (McGrath), aunts, uncles, cousins, relatives, and many friends.
Ella reposed at Egan’s Funeral Home, Greencloyne, Youghal, on Monday from 5pm until 7pm. Requiem Mass will take place on Tuesday at 12 noon in St Cronan’s Church Clashmore with burial afterwards in the adjoining cemetery.
