New Public Bins installed across West Waterford to tackle litter issue

New public litter bins have been installed in three County Waterford towns following calls from local communities for improved waste disposal facilities.
The bins have been placed at key locations in Tallow, Lismore and Cappoquin, including The Square in Tallow, The Mall in Lismore and at the Community Centre in Cappoquin.
Welcoming the development, Cllr Donnchadh Mulcahy said residents had repeatedly raised concerns about the lack of public bins in busy areas.
"The lack of public bins was something that kept coming back to me from people across the community," he said.
"Whether on the doorstep, by phone or in conversation, residents highlighted the need for more bins in busy public areas. I raised these concerns with Waterford City and County Council, and I am delighted to see them now in place."
While describing the additional bins as a positive step, Cllr Mulcahy warned that fly-tipping and illegal dumping remain significant challenges across West Waterford.
"There is simply no excuse for fly-tipping," he said.
"It damages our environment, takes away from the beauty of our towns and countryside and leaves communities to deal with the consequences."
He encouraged members of the public to use the new facilities and report incidents of illegal dumping when they occur.
"I would encourage everyone to use the new bins provided and, if you witness illegal dumping, please report it so the appropriate action can be taken," he said.
Cllr Mulcahy also thanked Waterford City and County Council for responding to residents' concerns and delivering the new infrastructure.
"Small improvements like this make a real difference, but we all have a role to play in keeping West Waterford clean," he said.
"By working together and reporting fly-tipping whenever we see it, we can protect the places we are proud to call home," he added.
The installation of the bins is expected to improve access to waste disposal facilities in the three towns and forms part of ongoing efforts to maintain cleaner public spaces throughout West Waterford.
