Mountain rescue respond to emergency at Coumshingaun in early hours

South Eastern Mountain Rescue received a call from Gardaí at 2:36am this morning to assist to campers at Coumshingaun.

One of the campers had taken ill and needed assistance to get off the hill. 

Team members made their way to the mast at Kilclooney to begin the search.

Search and Rescue Dog Association search dogs Ziggy and Rosie, along with handlers Mick and Helen also responded to the call.

The unwell camper had started to make their way down towards the carpark and were located quickly by team members. 

They were assessed by the team doctor and handed over to National Ambulance Service (NAS) ambulance for further treatment. 

Team members continued on up to the lake to find the second camper to assist them with packing up and carrying out the gear. 

Everyone got safely off the hill at 05:42am.
