'More than one interested party' in Waterford's Granary

The Granary Café closed on January 9, 2026.

At a recent meeting of the Metropolitan District Council, Independent Councillor Dónal Barry asked if the council could provide an update on the Granary restaurant space.

He asked whether there had been any interest from perspective tenants or plans to reactivate the space.

"Could it be looked at as a possible space for a Maritime museum?" he queried.

Cllr Barry noted: "Since its closure, there has been a noticeable reduction in footfall in the surrounding area.”

Acting Director of Services with Waterford Council, Claire Hartley, said, “There is more than one interested party.”

The Granary cafe closed its doors in early January of this year.  The café first opened in 2006 and won seven McKenna Guide awards. It was known for its delicious food made from local ingredients, as well as a friendly and inviting atmosphere.
