Met Éireann has upgraded the existing status yellow rain warning, to an orange rain warning for Waterford on Sunday.
The national weather service is warning that heavy rain and thundery downpours are predicted to hit Waterford and Cork tomorrow.
Flooding, dangerous driving conditions, and travel disruptions are likely to hit Waterford, it has been warned. The warning comes into effect at 8am on Sunday, September 29, until 6pm.
All of Munster will also be under a status yellow rain and wind warning, with Met Éireann saying that localised flooding and difficult travelling conditions likely. The weather service has asked drivers to be aware of fallen branches and trees in the province.
Speaking to Waterford News & Star, Met Éireann meteorologist Rebecca Cantwell said that the weather conditions have been caused by a "low pressure system moving along the south coat, moving eastwards throughout Sunday."
The Met Éireann meteorologist warned that strong winds are expected on Sunday in addition to the rainy conditions, "a mixture of rain and wind is going to make for a very unpleasant day on Sunday".
Met Éireann has urged people in Waterford to keep an eye on their website to keep up-to-date on the latest weather warnings.
The severe weather management team of Waterford City and County Council is monitoring the situation and has placed ground crews on stand-by.
Waterford City and County Council has advised the public to "exercise caution, heed public safety advice and avoid unnecessary journeys as driving conditions may be hazardous, with surface water flooding expected."
"Motorists are advised to avoid driving through flowing or standing water and are reminded to be conscious of vulnerable road users such as pedestrians and cyclists."
