Man drove 174km on 100km road

A man was caught speeding 174km/h on a 100km road near Waterford.
David Doherty, of Newlands Park, Clondalkin, Dublin 22, was detected speeding on shortly after 2pm on February 16, 2025 near Slieverue.
The 43-year-old was on the way to watch a match in Waterford when Garda Conor Courtney captured him speeding.
After being pulled over, he co-operated with Garda Courtney. The Court heard that he had 'no explanation' for speeding. He said: "I wasn't paying attention to the clock." He was convicted of careless driving and had his license revoked.
Doherty appeared at the District Court of Appeal to gain back his license, arguing that he was a father of three, business owner of a drainage company and the only driver in his family.
Judge Cormac Quinn ordered him to pay a €500 fine and to make a €1,000 donation to Oasis House, a women's refuge in Waterford.
