Hostel planned in Dungarvan

A hostel is planned for O'Connell Street in Dungarvan.
Will Dungarvan see the addition of a new largescale hostel building?
The development of the 24-bedroom hostel is currently in the works at 63 and 64 O’Connell Street in Dungarvan town, Co. Waterford.
A planning application was submitted to Waterford City and County Council last week by applicant Edel McDonagh, who is planning the partial demolition of the existing two-storey terraced building at 64 O’Connell Street and change of use of part of the existing two-storey terraced building from retail/residential to hostel accommodation.
Proposed is the redevelopment of the partially demolished building at 64 O’Connell Street, involving the provision of three floors above an existing ground floor with a four-storey extension to the rear.
Providing an internal connection on all floors between No.63 O’Connell Street and No. 64 O’Connell Street is also planned in order to create a single four-storey building consisting of a 24 bedroom hostel/guest accommodation and a ground floor shop unit.
Alterations are additionally planned to the elevations of number 63 O’Connell Street, which differ from the elevations previously granted under a different application. A connection to existing public services is proposed within the plans.
The planning application is currently deemed to be an "incompleted application" by Waterford City and County Council and additional information is needed from the applicant before the development can progress further.
The application was ruled incomplete on December 12 by Waterford Council's planning department. The applicant was asked that the site notice, which was erected at the premises, be taken down.
