The Granville Hotel scooped the Gold Award in the Historic City Hotel category of the Historic Hotels of Europe Awards.

The hotel was commended for its upholding of Irish heritage and history, along with its exceptional service for visitors.

The Granville is one of the oldest hotels in Ireland, and was the birthplace of Irish revolutionary Thomas Francis Meagher.

The premises was also the headquarters for the Bianconi family, who set up Ireland’s first public transport system in the 19th century.

The Historic Hotels of Europe awards, held this year at the scenic Château Liblice in Czechia, celebrate properties across Europe that exemplify cultural preservation and hospitality.

Philip Erskine, Business Development Manager at the Granville Hotel, who attended the awards alongside general manager Michael Skehan, said of the honour: "Working at the Granville Hotel is truly special. You feel the weight of history in every corner of the building, and it’s a privilege to be part of a place with such strong ties to Irish heritage.

He continued: "For the Cusack family, who own the hotel, preserving this history has always been a passion. This award is a testament to their commitment and to the significance of the Granville in Ireland’s story."
