Gardaí have released an updated image of missing Imelda Keenan, as her family make an urgent appeal for information.

Imelda, originally from Mountmellick, Co Laois, was living in an apartment on William Street with her fiancé before her sudden disappearance in January 1994.

She was last seen walking on The Mall on the afternoon of Monday, January 3, 1994.

On a recent episode of RTÉ's 'Crimecall', Superintendent Gavin Hegarty spoke about the investigation into Imelda's disappearance and the release of a new photo of Imelda.

The photo is a computer imagining of how Imelda might appear today, aged 53.

Family appeal

On the episode, Gerry Keenan, Imelda's brother, appealed to the public for any information about her disappearance.

He said: "Imelda is on my mind 24 hours a day. The pain we are enduring is as much the same as the weekend that our sister went missing."

Gerry spoke movingly about his sister, her love of music and the sea, and their close-knit family. Imelda was the second-youngest child of the family and was only 22 at the time of her disappearance. The last 30 years have done nothing to ease the pain for Imelda's loved ones.

Gerry said on the programme: "Until I have the last breath in my body, I will keep searching."

The programme described how Imelda was studying a computer course in Waterford and was living with her fiancé. According to Gerry: "As far as I was concerned, she was happy."

When she disappeared, there was a 12-day widespread search all over Waterford City.

In recent times, the family have appealed to Gardaí to update the case into a murder investigation.

Supt. Hegarty said that there is a "reasonable probability" that Imelda is no longer alive.

"If it is the case that Imelda is deceased, we're trying to find where she is and how she might have met her demise."
