Further vandalism at Farronshoneen playground

Fire at Farronshoneen playground.
There was more vandalism last week at the playground in Farronshoneen in Waterford city, with gardaí and fire services attending to a fire in the area.
A statement issued to the Waterford News & Star regarding the incident said: "Gardaí responded to a report of a fire at a playground in Ardkeen, Waterford city on Wednesday evening, 27th November 2024. The local fire service extinguished the fire."
A gardaí spokesperson said that enquiries are ongoing.
Vandalism at the park has been ongoing in the past number of weeks, with significant damage caused, fires set, playground equipment damaged and wheelie bins full of rubbish tipped and emptied onto the playground.

Speaking on the spate of issues, local Waterford councillor Adam Wyse commented: "There was another fire at Farronshoneen Park just now and it happened while many people were in the area voting at the youth centre. Gardaí and the Fire Department were on the scene within minutes.
"This is now at least the fifth fire in six weeks. It’s clear the same group is causing trouble each time. Please continue to call Gardaí if you see any suspicious activity in the park, especially at night.
"The Council is working on a plan for the area, but until those responsible are held accountable, this problem will continue. It’s incredibly frustrating for residents who no longer feel safe using the park. As you can see the park is well lit and yet they still aren’t afraid to cause damage to the area."
Meanwhile, WLR reported last week that gardaí were seeking information on a series of tumble-dryer thefts from the Waterford city area.
Three houses, which are currently under construction at Cherry Avenue and Cherry Drive, had a Nordmende TDC 72-WH tumble dryer stolen from each.
