Ferrybank locals worried over vacant shopping centre

Ferrybank Shopping Centre was cited as a main concern for local residents.
Residents in Ferrybank are concerned with the ongoing impasse over the Shopping Centre.
At the recent Piltown Municipal District, councillors heard the latest updates on the dormant shopping complex.
The centre was built in 2008 but has laid mostly empty.
Director of Services for Planning and Environment at Kilkenny County Council Denis Malone has written to the owners Dunnes Stores Group about the site.
According to Director Ian Gardner: "Denis Malone wrote to Dunnes Stores last week and let them know about the masterplan for Ferrybank with a view to meet with them and discuss that and to explain that there's an ambitious plan for growth in this part of the city.
"He hasn't come back yet to say that they've agreed to a meeting ."
Cathaoirleach Ger Frisby said: "I'm going to reiterate that the two biggest things that came when we were canvassing in Ferrrybank in the last month were the sustainable transport bridge and the shopping centre sitting here.
He continued: "We're getting it in the neck, you keep telling us you're meeting them. How many times have you met them? What's happening?
"I think at this stage, [I] don't want to be saying this but we have to take the gloves off and start boxing hard to try and get an answer and get it resolved because if we don't, its just going to go around in circles."
He added: "The wider area would benefit from this center open. Its the frequently asked question on the doors again, so if that's coming up, we have to try and as public representatives address it and to make sure that we do progress it."
