An interagency operation took place on the Comeraghs over the weekend to evacuate a walker who had become unwell on the mountain.

South Eastern Mountain Rescue received a call at 4.18pm on Saturday from the National Ambulance Service (NAS) asking for assistance with the evacuation of the walker who was unable to continue.

SEMRA team members along with two NAS ambulances, an advanced paramedic car and the NAS Air Ambulance all responded to the Nire Valley to assist the walker.

The walker was treated on location, whilst other team members were tasked with finding a safe landing zone for the helicopter.

The casualty was lifted by the air ambulance from the top of the mountain down to a safe landing zone and from there transferred into the SEMRA Land Rover to be delivered to a waiting ambulance.

A SEMRA spokesperson said, “An excellent multi agency response to a potentially serious incident. We wish the casualty a swift recovery.”
