Deputy David Cullinane has called for Waterford Airport to be included in the Programme for Government ahead of the coalition parties' expected launch of their document later today.

Deputy Cullinane, the Sinn Féin spokesperson for Health, said that the Programme for Government "needs to clearly set out timescales and funding certainty for the delivery of a runway extension at the Airport".

The Waterford TD continued saying that concrete promises of "24/7 cardiac care and the upgrading of the Waterford to Cork, and Limerick Roads" should also be included in the Programme for Government: "No more delays or half measures."

The draft Programme for Government is expected to be released after the parliamentary party meetings of both Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael this afternoon.

Sources within the likely government parties have indicated that the draft document today will reflect the parties' election promises on the development of Waterford Airport.

Waterford Airport is set to be directly referenced in the document as part of government plans to address regional airports.

At the most recent sitting of Waterford City and County Council, CEO Seán McKeown said that he is hopeful for progress on expanding Waterford Airport.

“The only positive is that the two parties that are trying to form a Government at the moment had it strongly in their manifestos, so one would include it as a priority for the region,” said Mr McKeown.
