Council say there is no room for bottle bank in Waterford's Ferrybank suburb

At a recent meeting of the Metropolitan District Council, Social Democrat Councillor Mary Roche asked the council if they could look at installing a bottle bank in Ferrybank.
Dawn Wallace, senior executive for the Environment Department of Waterford City and County Council, said, “We had to remove the bottle bank in Ferrybank to facilitate the North Quays work. We don’t actually have anywhere else to put it. It’s been exacerbated because Kilkenny have removed their bottle bank from the Aldi."
Cllr Roche then asked if the council could look at the problem again.
Ms Wallace replied, “We’ve looked everywhere, and there isn’t a location for us to put them in.”
Fianna Fáil Councillor and Metropolitan Mayor Adam Wyse added, “I find that a bit peculiar myself, that there’s not a single area that we could put a bottle bank in to serve the people there. I’d ask that we look at that a bit more again.
"I don’t think that’s acceptable that people would have to leave Ferrybank to get rid of their bottles.
"We want people to be recycling and we’re making it as difficult as possible for them.”
