A happy Waterford news story to bring you into the weekend

A group of kind Waterford locals came to rescue of a pensioner who needed help in the city this week.

Mr. Dermot O’Boyle from Carlow rang the offices of the Waterford News & Star wishing to thank all those who helped him get home safely.

80-year-old Dermot got into a spot of bother after losing his wallet during a trip to University Hospital Waterford this week.

Dermot was worried he wouldn’t be able to get home after his hospital exam.

Thankfully, hospital staff and bus drivers made sure that Dermot got home safely.

"I came out of the hospital and I put my hand into my pocket at the bus station and no wallet!" Dermot said.

"I hadn’t a button on me and I needed to get the train home to Carlow after my appointment.

“My Local Link driver was so nice that he asked other drivers around to check if they had found my wallet. He tried, and unfortunately no joy.

“I then told the CIE bus driver that I lost my wallet, and he said that’s no problem at all. The hospital staff were also so nice to me.

"People asked me if they could get me anything or if they could help in any way. After it all, I got home safe.

"My doctor gave me all clear too, so it was bad day that turned good!”

Dermot was delighted to have been the recipient of so much kindness. He said he expected no less from the people of Waterford.

“Myself and my wife used to go to Waterford regularly and we always found people to be so nice in this city."
