Tramore, Waterford.

Just under 90 incidents were responded to by Waterford Fire Service and Council ground crews during Storm Chandra in recent weeks.

Council Chief Executive, Sean McKeown, said "it was an unprecedented event for Waterford and the South East in terms of duration."

"We had our ground crews and fire staff on call early in the morning and late in the evening" he added.

There were almost 90 incidents responded to, Mr. McKeown confirmed, including waterlogged roads and flooded houses.

Fire services also had to be positioned for long hours to ensure houses weren’t flooded in Woodstown, Faithlegg and Gracedieu.

"We were under pressure for that period of time and I'd like to take this opportunity to give great credit to our ground crews, our fire staff and customer service desk who worked long hours to ensure we were able to respond to the incidents" Mr. McKeown said.

In relation to serious house flooding in Passage East, he added that the situation was "regrettable."

"Our thoughts go out to all those who unfortunately experienced flooding" he said.
