30 years of Waterford's 'Clean up the Comeraghs'

The "Clean Up" is an event organised by the Comeragh Community Development Group every Easter Monday.

2026 is the 30th anniversary of the first "Clean Up The Comeraghs" event.

The "Clean Up" is an event organised by the Comeragh Community Development Group every Easter Monday.

There are two options available for people this year. Clean up their own areas in advance of Easter Monday or else wait for Easter Monday when bags, gloves, litter pickers and high-visibility vests will be distributed outside Veale's Supermarket in Leamybrien at 10am. Areas to be cleared will be allocated on the day.

Arrangements are now in place where people can pick up bags, gloves and litter pickers from any member of the Comeragh Community Development Group leading up to Easter Monday.

Certain areas require special attention, the group say. The forest entrances and the joining road between the N25 and the R676 near Leamybrien continue to be a major problem. As well as being unsightly, it is also a major source of pollution.

The Comeragh Community Development Group is now planning to open a walk in this area.

With the help of local voluntary groups and walkers, the group are confident that this area would become a litter-free area and also become a local tourist attraction.
