15 candidates on General Election ballot for Waterford

The candidates running in the 2024 General Election in Waterford.

A total of 15 candidates will appear on the ballot for the 2024 General Election in Waterford on voting day, Friday, November 29.

The nominations period for candidates to appear on the ballot passed last Saturday with five more candidates running in the election this year compared to in 2020.

Sinn Féin will be running two candidates, with sitting TD and Sinn Féin health spokesperson Deputy David Cullinane being joined by the party's councillor for Dungarvan and Lismore Cllr Conor McGuinness.

Fianna Fáil will be represented on the ballot by the current Minister of State at the Department of Health with responsibility for Mental Health and Older People Mary Butler.

Primary school teacher and the Green Party Whip Deputy Marc Ó Cathasaigh is also seeking back-to-back electoral success.

Senator John Cummins is seeking election into the higher parliament as the candidate for Fine Gael.

Deputy Matt Shanahan, part of the Regional Group of TDs, who received the third most first preference votes in 2020, is one of five independent TDs who will feature on the ballot.

The other independents are; self-employed Mark O'Neill, former Rabharta candidate Killian Mangan, hospitality worker Aaron Joyce, and South East Technological University economics and finance lecturer Frank Conway.

The Labour Party will be represented by Sadhbh O’Neill, an environmental activist, lecturer and columnist who previously served as a local councillor in Dublin from 1991.

Current Waterford City East Councillor Mary Roche will be representing the Social Democrats.

Database consultant John D Walsh will be contesting the election on behalf of the Irish People Party, while Dr Ronan Cleary will represent Aontú and Patrick Curtin is running for People Before Profit.

You can check if you are registered to vote at checktheregister.ie or if you need to update your address. Your polling card will be mailed out to you ahead of voting day and it will tell you which of the polling stations to are eligible you vote.
