Your Fitness: Why adding more protein to your diet is a good idea!

Protein can be referred to as the building blocks behind the building and maintenance of lean muscle mass.
The first and foremost reason is muscle growth.
Protein can be referred to as the building blocks behind the building and maintenance of lean muscle mass.
If your goal revolves around getting the most out of your training then this should become a big priority in how you approach your nutrition. Aiming for approximately 1.5-3g protein per kg of bodyweight should be a sweet spot for the majority looking to get the most from their training!
Remember - more muscle is not always an aesthetic benefit, yes, you will likely achieve a more toned/leaner look - but you will also be setting yourself up for a healthier and stronger body as you age.
Next up is recovery. If you train hard, you must recover hard... We’ve heard it all before. Having a sufficient protein intake is likely to put you in a much more favourable position to recover session to session.
Keeping it simple, better recovery is likely to result in a lower risk of injury and helps in optimising your performance in the gym or wherever you choose to apply yourself in a physical context.
Lastly, comes satiety. This is more applicable in a dieting phase where hunger is at its highest. Protein, as a macronutrient, can be one of your best friends when it comes to regulating hunger and appetite.
Having a higher protein intake across the day will help to keep you feeling fuller for longer.
Use this to your advantage and make sure you are including a high protein source in each meal. As we know, when looking to get more toned (leaner) we want to promote the growth and maintenance of lean muscle mass and reduce the amount of body fat we are holding.
When looking to get in shape protein will be one of the best tools at your disposal to make this happen!
