Your Fitness: Some easy ways to increase your activity level

The good news is - there are plenty of helpful strategies to start increasing your activity level immediately!

Increasing our activity can have numerous benefits when it comes to our health and fitness goals.

Moving more helps our body to burn more calories and depending on the intensity of the activity relative to our baseline - improve our overall cardiovascular fitness.

The good news is - there are plenty of helpful strategies to start increasing your activity level immediately!

Step count

If you don’t already have one, I would definitely recommend you begin to use one!

Step counts offer us a daily target of steps to hit on a daily basis. This ensures we are consistently achieving a certain amount of physical activity.

If unsure where to start, 10k steps a day is usually a good place to start, alternatively record what your steps are on a normal day and look to improve this moving forward where necessary.

Steps can be recorded using your phone or a little more accurately on a fitness watch!

Join a class

A fun and easy way to start working on your fitness, depending on the class you take, this may involve several other health benefits.

Opting for circuit training or classes that have an element of strength training can be a helpful way of both increasing activity level and improving muscle strength and function! Start small and try one or two classes a week to start and build from there!

Park a little further away

A quick and easy way to increase your activity level! Just park further away from your destination. This will help to increase your step count and overall activity.

Instead of looking for the shortcut, maybe take the long way around where time allows.

Overall, we are just scratching the surface on what we can start doing to start improving our activity level.

Now comes the interesting part, putting these steps into practice. Start small and build from there, consistently make the effort and improvements will be observed!

You have power over your mind, not outside events. Realize this, and you will find strength” - Marcus Aurelius
