Your Fitness: How long will it take?

Your Fitness: How long will it take?

The more effort and intent we put towards our daily actions - the more progress we will generally make - and the faster we can reach our desired milestones.

A question I often get from clients pursuing a health and fitness goal. Whether it’s a fat loss transformation or somebody looking to put on some muscle and improve their strength - the answer often remains the same. It takes as long as it takes.

There is no secret formula, there is no magic bullet that will teleport you to your destination in a matter of weeks.

I like to compare this to a share in the stock market. The more value a share gathers, the more this is reflected in the market price.

The same is true in a way when looking at a health and fitness goal. The more effort and intent we put towards our daily actions - the more progress we will generally make - and the faster we can reach our desired milestones.

Unlike the stock market - we will unlikely see an unprecedented shift overnight - but similar to the market, we will likely see peaks and troughs in our rate of progress as external events and hurdles we must navigate can temporarily slow down our rate of progress.

We should look at our fitness journey in the same way we look at the stock market in many ways. We should be looking to make small daily investments that will accumulate value over time and will not be something we expect an immediate overnight return on.

Worthwhile goals take time, the good thing about these goals is we should start to feel the effects of these goals materialising a couple of weeks into your journey.

I talk to my clients about this all the time. Think about how much more energy you have now, how much more confident you feel.

Think about where you were a few months ago compared to now. Sometimes this is enough for someone to truly start realising how far they have come, and an overall appreciation that this is now a part of their lifestyle and not just a task on their to do list!
