Your Fitness: Does success leave clues?
To get to where you want to be - the fastest way is often to learn from someone who has done it before.
Often we find ourselves in awe of friends, colleagues and such who manage to stay in shape year round. We might put it down to luck, genetics, circumstances, discipline or a myriad of other reasons that, for one reason or another, we feel are out of our control.
We might see these goals as unrealistic and feel we are a million miles away from the life we want and need if we really want to start prioritising our health and fitness.
The reality - there will always be someone better off and worse off than ourselves - what’s important is what we do with the tools we have at our disposal.
Looking back to the title - success leaving clues? Can we take inspiration from those around us if we want to improve in an area they are excelling at? In my opinion, absolutely! I will always stand by the fact that to get to where you want to be - the fastest way is often to learn from someone who has done it before. The best guide is one who has walked the path before.
If you are to compare your daily behaviours and habits to theirs - there will normally be some disparity and this is great! It is unlikely a miracle they are where they are. If you can mirror just some of their daily habits you will start to follow suit. You are not required to copy absolutely everything they are doing, simply take some inspiration and you will begin to find an approach that works for you.
Never be afraid to discuss things like this with people who are where you want to be. It is likely that at one point in time they had the same or similar issues you might be experiencing and may offer insights as to how they overcame things.
While in many cases the gold standard will always be to seek guidance from health professionals when it comes to your health and fitness, discussing things with people who have done what you are trying to do under similar circumstances can be helpful in better understanding where you might be underestimating your ability to improve. You are closer to being on the path than you think.
