Your Fitness: 3 things I wish I knew sooner

Having data to demonstrate the amount of calories you are eating and having a logbook of some sort to track progress in your training can be a pivotal step.

As I get older and (possibly) a little wiser I find myself reflecting on previous beliefs and methods I applied along my own fitness journey and previous coaching philosophies that played a role in how I have helped clients in the past on the path towards their goals.

Like many health professionals, it did not take much reflection to acknowledge some key turning points over the years!

In this article I will highlight three important ones!

You can’t out-train a bad diet!

This may seem self-explanatory to a lot of you reading this. However, this was something I struggled with in my very early years and often see clients who have noted similar behaviours. Training hard and consistently keeping activity levels up will likely offset any major weight gain or other negative effects, however, without a good diet, you are limiting the progress you could be making, whether it is losing weight, building muscle or trying to improve your performance. Your diet matters!

What gets measured - gets managed!

This is something that I believe most people should focus on at some point during their health and fitness journey! Having data to demonstrate the amount of calories you are eating and having a logbook of some sort to track progress in your training can be a pivotal step in taking things to the next level and raising your awareness!

There is more than one way to skin a cat!

There was a time not so long ago that I believed there was often a “best” way of doing things. As I work with more and more people and educate myself more and more on what the current evidence shows us - I am a lot more open-minded to approaching situations and exploring multiple options when it comes to troubleshooting certain issues. Oftentimes there are more paths than one when it comes to reaching a destination.

If you are on the fence about online coaching and want to know a little bit more about the process - just email me the word “ready” and I will be in touch!

I am also delighted to announce that I am now offering an in-person personal training service at Kingfisher Fitness Club, Waterford! Lastly, I would also like to clarify that I am not a registered dietician. The advice given is not designed to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any health problem - nor is it intended to replace the advice of a physician. Always consult your physician or qualified health professional on any matters regarding your health.

I hope someone out there found some of this information useful here, just some food for thought.
