The late Henry P Molloy
The death occurred at University Hospital Waterford, after a short illness, on April 5, of Henry P. Molloy, Bell-Lake, Rossduff, Woodstown. A retired victualler, he was 91.
Henry was well known by many in the entire Barony of Gaultier who dealt with him in his Butcher's Shop in Patrick St, in the city, for many years. He was also well known in horse racing circles, greyhound circles and rugby with Waterpark, and was also well known in Kennedy's Pub, in Callaghane, where he frequented regularly.
His remains reposed at his residence on Tuesday, April 8, and his Requiem Mass was on Wednesday, April 9, in St. Mary’s Church, Ballygunner, celebrated by Rev Fr Gerard Chestnutt PP, Sacred Heart Church, with Rev Fr Liam Power PP, St Mary's and Rev John Delaney (retired PP), also present in front of a packed church.
The soloist was Brendan Mc Carthy. During the Mass, Fr Chestnutt went through Henry's long life and his easy way of dealing with customers in his chosen business as a butcher. He also spoke of him being a family man with a great love of all his family, right down to his great-grandchildren. He also had a few jovial remarks about his love of horse racing and greyhound racing and also covered the spiritual side of life. His son Peter, on behalf of the family, paid a lovely tribute to his late father covering his long and busy life both as a victualler and his various sporting interests at many locations both in Ireland and across the channel. He also spoke of his years with Waterpark rugby, in many roles. All of his family members participated in the various readings at his mass including grandchildren and his great-grandchildren brought up symbols of Henry's life.
After mass he was laid to rest in the adjoining cemetery. Predeceased by his parents Lawrence and Bridget Molloy, brothers Tom, Noel and Nicholas, sisters Ann and Betty, he is survived by his wife Mailo (nee: Kelly) and his daughters Karen, Mailo, Suzie, son Peter, his brothers Jack, Joe and Vincent, brothers-in-law, his sons-in-law Eddie Jackman, Stan Power and Garry Pepper, his daughter-in-law Mary (nee: Walsh), his grandchildren Stan, Vicki, Amy, Kelly, James, Bryan, Ben, Sophie, Mark, Peter and Niall and his great-grandchildren Erin, Fia, Harry, Emily, William, Poppy, James, Siena and and his nephews, nieces, cousins, extended family and many friends.
